Spyware Doctor Review
Spyware got you down? Have your computer ground to a halt ever since your kids started downloading and surfing the internet? Do you have spyware slowing down your computer, yet you don't have any idea what to do about it? If you answer yes to any of those questions, have we got the product for you!
Alright, in all seriousness (and cheesy sales pitches aside), Spyware has become one of the most annoying things to happen to modern computing since the invention of the Bonzi Buddy. Spyware wasn't an issue until 2001 or so, and then it became widely used by marketing and promotional companies as a way to collect various types of information or display advertisements.
Spyware Doctor is a dedicated spyware solution. Spyware doctor has no other function outside of finding, cleaning, and eliminating the spyware from your computer. Some may argue the restrains or lack of versatility offered by Spyware Doctor, but I certainly wouldn't hire a plumber to fix my car- would you?
Features Spyware Doctor features real-time tracking and blocking, a unique severity identification method (via color coding) and self-updating capability. None of these features are extraordinary, though they are all implemented quite well.
Using Spyware Doctor The program runs in the background, and though you can run a full scan whenever you'd like, it generally isn't needed. We did a scan when we first installed it, cleaned what was there, and then let the program run in the background. A couple of times a day we would get a notification that would inform us of the latest threat it had dealt with.
Our computer seemed to take a bit longer to perform a few tasks, but we can't actually pin it on Spyware Doctor. The decrease in performance wasn't significant, and according to our CPU monitor, we weren't actually using any more processing time. Perhaps it was a swap file or memory issue, but in either case, it manifested after we had installed Spyware Doctor.
Aside from that, there was little else to report. Our end of test spyware scan only detected 3 running processes, which was a massive improvement over the 450-some odd processes that were detected before we had installed and run Spyware Doctor.
Conclusion Spyware Doctor has done a pretty good job, and we're happy to recommend it to users that are looking for a no-frills, no-fluff solution to their spyware problems. Though there are other products on the market that offer a few more features, they usually come at a premium in price. At just $30, Spyware Doctor is a bargain.
