ESET Nod32 Review
Who can recall receiving an e-mail entitled “I love you”? I sure can, and though I wasn't one of the thousands of personal computers that eventually fell victim to the virus, I can definitely see how it was nearly a reality.
At the end of the day, your computer is only as good as you make it. If you've failed to maintain it, let it slow down due to gunk, viruses, or spyware, it will become slow and unstable. Maintain it, and your computer will last you several years, always running smooth and stable. A logical choice to protect your computer is an anti-virus, and though there are many on the market, no two are quite the same.
ESET Nod32 certainly has an unconventional name, and it is not one that I'll soon be forgetting. It's not the name which has kept me interested however. Read on!
Features ESET Nod32 is very feature rich, offering a plethora of options and menus that most users will find easy to navigate. The anti-virus libraries are updated regularly, with good speed, as they are needed. The software does this automatically, and does not require any input on the part of the user.
The software runs in the background, constantly scanning files/folders that are accessed or downloaded. You can manually run a system scan whenever you'd like, or you can have the programs automatic scheduler do it for you. ESET Nod32 also scans incoming/outgoing e-mails and internet traffic, ensuring that nothing squeaks by without you knowing.
Using ESET Nod32 The program is simple to install, set up, and run. Though there are several variants running in the background (for various parts of the applications ongoing monitoring), I experienced neither a slowdown nor increase in CPU usage. I am very happy to see that the program integrates itself with the system processes so well.
Configuration was easy, and anyone who has used a computer a few times will be able to figure it all out. The help files are adequate, and are easy to access should anything go wrong.
Though the company claims to be able to detect viruses long before they become popularized, I was, obviously, unable to test this claim. However, ESET Nod32 did catch every virus that I tried to download and install, and I am confident that the software is capable. I tried download over 100 files, each infected with different viruses, and none were missed. Very impressive.
My only issues with the program come from very minor gripes, such as the software erratically updating itself or the fact that the program is set to “pop up” every time a virus is found. Again, very minor irritations, but still worth mentioning.
Conclusion ESET Nod32 is very capable indeed, and I am very impressed with the overall performance and structure of this software. I only wish that the maintenance was a little more regular, though I suppose that there is no harm done.
