Kaspersky Review A while ago we went on a bit of rant about product support and service. When it comes to software, a lot of retail outlets and manufacturers leave you on your own once you've made the purchase. We recognize the reason (piracy) as a legitimate one, but that doesn't mean that it's fair to the consumer to be left without any kind of decent support or assistance. Kaspersky is one application that comes with stellar support. In fact, this anti-virus is one of the best in the industry for more than one reason. It has top-notch virus protection, exceptional customer support (read on), and remarkable performance. In fact, it is our second favorite virus protection.
Features Kaspersky is updated once every hour - wow! There is no other product on the market that we no of which updates itself so much. In fact, we don't think that there's anything in the world which is updated as often. The hourly updates make the likelihood of a new virus infecting your computer somewhere in the neighborhood of slim to none.
Using Kaspersky The program will run its auto-update feature once an hour, and if this program were any other application we would probably turn down the frequency for sake of performance, but this is no ordinary application. In fact, this application should be described as “Super Kaspersky”, as it ran so quickly we were unable to discern any performance change at all- even when the auto-update feature was active and running!
Our hard drives, which tip the scales at just over 600 gigabytes, were scanned in 15 minutes. Infected with the same viruses as we use for all of our testing, Kaspersky caught them all in 13 minutes, and cleaned and finished the scan at the 15 minute mark. Very, very good.
But, effectiveness and update schedule aside, Kaspersky also comes with some of the best support in the business. Any problems that we had (which were all fictitious, of course) were resolved in less than a day from the time we sent our e-mail, and though we were certain that the support technicians must have thought us to be complete fools (we asked every lame and inconceivable question we could have conceived), but they provided answers that clear, concise, and polite.
One small complaint that we have is that the menus, which could have been laid out a bit better, were somewhat confusing to navigate through. However, it is a small gripe and nothing worth deleting the application for.
Conclusion At around $25, this application is a great value. It offers great service, great support, great performance, and constant updates to ensure that your computer is protected. This application had us torn between first and second place, but we decided to place it in second simply because we liked the first place product, BitDefender, a teeny, tiny bit more.
