2009 Acoustica 4 Review

What is Acoustica 4?

Acoustica 4 is made by Acon Digital Media and it features easy media recording and its very own cd burning components. You can do this in either 24 or 32 bit modes at 192Khz. It also has non-destructive fast editing so you do not mess up the original copy. Another great feature is the unlimited undo/redo options. This program is also compatible with the new Windows Vista, a great feature for those who have decided to upgrade to the new Windows version.

What does it do and support?

Acoustica 4 also supports Direct X plug-ins and can record from just about anything including your sound card, analog gear, or your line-in audio. If you are listening to your internet radio or anything else while you are using this software, you do not have to turn that sound off to that. You can even leave the sound alerts on and it will not interfere with the recording that you are currently working on. Many new features are available in this version of Acoustica, including, tools for dynamic processing, and equalizing. There are also numerous effects that can be done such as reverb, chorus, and flanger and you also can use the time stretching and key transposition tools that are included. Since you are able to use this software to restore recordings that are distorted by crackle, clicks, or even missing high frequency content, you can make even your old records (supposing you have the equipment to hook up you record player to your computer) and turn them into high quality music cds.

How about filtering?

Acoustica 4 does not have all of the preset filters that other software in this category has, but with experience in filtering, you don’t have to worry about anything because of the features that are included. The cd burning components allows you to pull from many formats such as WAV, AU, MP3, WMA, MPEG, and OGG Vorbis. It also allows you to pull audio from many different video file formats and put them on cd, therefore allowing you to make your own soundtracks from your favorite parts of the movie. It does not work with AIFF format, but hopefully they will take a look at adding that in the next version.

Summary

Overall, this software is very easy to use and everything that you need is very easy to locate. There is also an inter-program help section, online forum, tutorials, and a manual that you can download. You can also go to the website and email their tech support. You can’t do free upgrades, but they do have additional plug-ins that you can download.

Acoustica does have a free trial version available. The full price for this recording/editing software is dependent on if you get Acoustica 4.x which is $39.90 or you can get the Acoustica Premium Edition 4.x for $119.90. Both of which are small fees to pay for good software such as this.
