eFax.com Review

E-mail has replaced the fax machine.  It's pretty obvious, right?  Well, in most business circles, you will have to send or receive a fax at some point.  Luckily for you, so long as you own a printer and a scanner, your computer can literally become a fax machine.  By using online fax services, such as eFax.com, you can effectively send and receive a fax via e-mail, negating the need to own a fax machine.

These services offer tons of features, and many of them are attractively priced.  Efax.com is one such service, and at $16 a month, it certainly won't break the bank.  When we came across their website they were offering a free 30 day trial, so we decided to oblige and have a look for ourselves.

Features

eFax.com is probably the easiest web faxing service to use.  Their service is done entirely via e-mail.  When you sign up you are given a fax number.  When someone faxes this number, you will receive an e-mail from eFax.com notifying you of your new fax.  You simply open the e-mail, view the fax, and enjoy.

Sending a fax is just as easy.  Write a new e-mail and attach whatever document you want to send.  The recipients address is their fax number with @efaxsend.com on the end (19055555555@efaxsend.com, foe example).  Click send, and viola, you've just sent a fax!

Using eFax.com

Signing up for the free trial limits us to faxing 5 different e-mail addresses and sending or receive no more than 30 faxes.  The free trial also waives any activation fee that you may normally incurred, so it's always a good thing to try something for free.  We had a bit of an issue getting it set up, but a live-chat with a customer service rep quickly had that issue resolved.

We sent ourselves 10 test faxes and we received them within 5 minutes.  They appeared in our inbox, and everything was able to be accessed without any problems.  Sending a fax was just as easy, and we sent another 10 faxes to the same phone numbers that we received the faxes from.  No problems to report.

The service costs $16 a month, and includes 130 incoming and 30 sent faxes.  Any pages that you send or receive over top of those amounts will cost $0.10.  We would never send more than 30 faxes in a month, and we highly doubt that we'll ever receive more than 130 either.  We're glad to be able to incorporate faxes in the same way that do we do e-mail.

However, on that same note, it's a double-edged sword.  When you first start using this product, make absolutely sure that your spam blocker isn't putting your income faxes in your junk e-mail folder.  I can't think of anything that would annoy me more than having an important contract faxed to my junk folder and then unintentionally deleted.

Conclusion

While more expensive than some of its competition, eFax.com offers a lot of convenience that others simply do not.
