Email Fax

A fax machine isn't exactly the first device that many people will think of when creating a home or small business office. After all, the device has almost been rendered obsolete with the advent of e-mail and instant messaging. The fax
machine lingers on, however, and many people will find themselves with the need to use a fax machine at one point or another.

Or, perhaps you use your fax machine quite a bit and you are looking for a more cost effective solution. Regardless of your needs, the $10/month online fax service offered by FaxMicro.com is a bargain. In our case, we rarely use a fax machine. So rarely, in fact, that when we do need to use one we simply run over to Office Depot to use theirs. The problem is that faxes sent via Office Depot have their name in the footer, which makes us look unprofessional and cheap.

FaxMicro offers a solution, and we're going to see how it measures up.

Features

FaxMicro.com offers several packages for their online fax service. We have opted for the “Toll Free” version, which costs $10 per month. This version of FaxMicro gives you unlimited incoming faxes, your own toll free fax number, and the ability to send faxes for only $0.05 per page. You can receive receipt notifications, just like an actual fax machine, and all of the faxes sent are safe and secure.

Using FaxMicro

Our initial cost was $19.95 ($9.95/month service fee, and a one time $10 set up fee) to get up and running. Once we were up and running, the costs come down to only $9.95/month for unlimited income faxes to our toll free fax number and $0.05 per page that we send.

Since we receive more faxes than we send, we chose this option as it keeps our costs as low as possible while giving our customers the highest value possible. Receiving a fax is nearly instant, and when we do receive the fax it is clear and pristine. In fact, we bet that this probably looks better than it would if a traditional fax machine received it and printed the fax out.

Sending faxes is also quite easy. We can write them as an e-mail, or we can upload files (such as a PDF or image file) to send via fax. We cannot comment on the clarity received on the other end of our transmission, but we have yet to hear any complaints. At only $0.05 per page sent, it is much more economical than having to pay for paper/toner not to mention that we don't need to pay for a seperate phone line.

Conclusion

FaxMicro.com is a great service. The cost savings associated with eliminating our fax line make FaxMicro.com more than worth its weight in gold... or printer toner. Either way, we're quite happy with it.

E-mail has replaced the fax machine. It's pretty obvious, right? Well, in most business circles, you will have to send or receive a fax at some point. Luckily for you, so long as you own a printer and a scanner, your computer can literally become a fax machine. By using online fax services, such as eFax.com, you can effectively send and receive
a fax via e-mail, negating the need to own a fax machine.

MyFax

This service has undergone a bit of a transformation in the last little while. When it originally launched, users were assigned a telephone number that was used as their fax number. However, long distance and international rates still applied when faxing these numbers. Now, MyFax.com offers toll free fax numbers, meaning that it costs nothing to fax them.

When the fax machine was first introduced over 20 years ago it revolutionized business communication. Contracts or agreements could simply be faxed to each other, greatly reducing the amount of time spent waiting for important documents to arrive. It also ushered in the first wave of “spam” as fax numbers were placed on advertising lists. It's almost a sad irony how e-mail spam has replaced fax spam.
