FilterPak Review If you have children who use the internet, you should probably have some kind of vested interest in preventing them from accessing pornographic or illicit material. Keep your kids out of trouble is one of the responsibilities that you signed up for when you became a parent, and it's something that's amazingly difficult to accomplish when it comes to internet use.
Luckily, products like FilterPak are there to give you that bit of assistance when you need it. These programs, called “internet filters” or “content filters” are a dime a dozen, yet finding one that is good, efficient, and economical can be a real pain.
There are many reasons for this, from over blocking to outright failure to function. Making the right choice can be difficult.
Features FilterPak's features are relatively standard for content blocking. You can make specific requests, change the configurations, and insert keywords or phrases that you want blocked. If a site has that word/phrase on it, the site will be blocked, refusing access.
Using FilterPak Once FilterPak was installed we spent a few minutes setting it up. We wanted access to gaming, automotive, and technology websites. For the purposes of this evaluation, we simply shut off access to everything else.
FilterPak performed as expected, though there were times when a sit was blocked that should not have been filtered, and other times when a site that definitely should have been blocked was not. However, this was the exception and not the rule.
When the application did block something that it shouldn't have, we simply made use of the override feature to gain access. We didn't have any problems utilizing this feature, and though some may argue that having to use the override feature can become annoying, it didn't bother us at all. We were quite happy to override websites than to risk being exposed to less desirable ones.
There is no real tracking or logging information, so you won't be able to tell what it is blocking and when.
Conclusion We wish that we could have more to say, but we believe that the software speaks for itself. It works as directed, does its job, and makes no fluff about anything else. A recommend product.
