Retail chains, such as Best Buy or Sears, offer return periods and warranties, while manufacturers offer warranties and grace periods. For a consumer, the sheer amount of personal protection is uncanny.
Yet, when it comes to software, there is none. Well, CA Internet Security suite is one such software that has one heck of a warranty: up to $5,000 of it, in fact. Yes, you did read that last sentence right: if this software fails to protect your personal information while you are online, CA will reimburse you up to $5,000. How's that for a warranty?

This software is all-encompassing, covering everything that you need for your personal or business computers. It has an anti-virus, firewall, and spy ware remover, as well as some other minor features. The big three, however, are critical components that every computer should have.
The anti-virus is pretty standard. It's database is updated frequently to ensure that you are protected against the latest threats, and it runs seamlessly in the background. The anti-virus is certified by various industry standards for its protection, and CA will reimburse you up t $1,500 for damage caused by a virus (assuming that you meet all of the guidelines).
The included firewall is also certified by various industry standard organizations. It is designed to protect important files, as well as monitor accessible ports. If it is compromised and you experience identity theft or financial loss as a result, CA will reimburse you up to $5,000.
Using CA Internet Security
As always, the program was a cinch to install. There was no mucking about or guesswork here. Once installed, the program checks for updates and, once updated, runs in the background.
There is approximately 15-20 minutes of basic configuration, upon which the programs are ready to go and running. With all three components running (anti-virus, firewall, anti-spy ware), the CPU usage was rained only 2%, and even then, that was during peak times. We are very impressed at how quickly and silently this program is, requiring almost now interaction at all (until there's a problem).
The anti-virus has a large virus database, and it is constantly updated. This means that CA Internet Security will be able to protect you against all of the latest bugs and threats that are scouring the internet. The firewall is efficient, and did a great job of keeping our computer invisible when surfing the internet. A bit more customization would be excellent, but for a normal user who won't ever need it, there will never be a problem. The spy ware detector works great, and catches just about everything under the sun. Overall, we are pretty happy with this piece of software.
Conclusion
At $70, CA Internet Security certainly doesn't come cheap. However, that price is actually getting you three different programs, and all of them are quite good. Combine that with the best warranty in the business, literally, and you have an suite of applications that can't be beat.
