Monitoring Software

Spector Pro

Imagine that you are about to purchase a brand new high-end BMW. You know that every aspect of that car, from its elegantly appointed interior to the powerful engine underneath the hood, has been designed for maximum performance and capability. When you get into the car, you wrap your hands around the steering wheel and exert and aura of confidence.

Spector Pro is much the same way. When it comes to PC monitoring, there are many different applications that can take on the job. However, there are very few applications that are streamlined, capable, and efficient. Some may off impressive features, yet they may lack other, less noticeable but still important ones. Spector Pro is so well-rounded, so well thought out, and so incredibly proficient that we were left to wonder what this software can't do.

Features

Oh my, where to begin? Spector Pro has all of the usual features, such as keystroke and e-mail logging. It also logs all of the websites visited, applications opened, files accessed, folders opened, usage time, and internet usage statistics. It monitors instant messaging conversations and incoming/outgoing e-mails, allowing you to see both sides of the conversation.

Spector Pro takes screenshots of what is happening so that you can see for yourself. There is no clutter or confusion either- the interface is streamlined and designed for maximum usability. Spector Pro also monitors chat rooms, and even MySpace. This software is the ultimate when it comes to PC monitoring.

Using Spector Pro

After reading the impressive list of features we were left with high expectations. Thankfully, Spector Pro more than met all of our expectations. In fact, Spector Pro is our new expectation of what a good PC monitoring application should be.

The software is easy to install and configure, and once it's running it does not take long to see the results. Every key is logged, every application opened is logged, and just about everything else is logged as well. With this software running, there is nothing that can happen on the monitored computer that you won't know about it.

The interface is well thought out and quite streamlined. It is very easy to access the various menu's and configuration options, as well as see screenshots or information logs. It did not slow down our computer, and its stealth mode is quite good- we were unable to detect its presence.

Conclusion

There is not a lot about this software that we don't like. Our only real gripe is it's $80 price tag, but we consider that a very reasonable cost to bear when considering the vast amount of protection that this software offers. Much like that BMW is going to cost more than a Hyundai, this software costs a small premium over its competition.

However, if you are serious about finding out what is going on with your computer, it's a small price to pay.

SpyAgent

 SpyAgent

Every group of friends has that one person who seems to do a little bit of everything. This person always knows how to handle themselves, and they have proven their worth on more than one occasion. It's like the mechanic who is also an electrician and plumber, as well as operating as a freelance web designer in their spare time. SpyAgent is much like that, accomplishing a lot of tasks that a single software program generally can't do.

IamBigBrother

IamBigBrother

With a name that is as unusual as “IamBigBrother”, you have got to wonder just what software like that is capable of. Another entrant in the crowded PC monitoring market, IamBigBrother relies on a simple interface and easy controls to remain marketable. Though there are other pieces of software that do the job a bit better, the simple controls and $30 price tag make IamBigBrother an attractive option.

Monitoring how your computer is used can be a tricky business. There are a plethora of applications available that can do the job, and though some are better than others, the real problem stems from the actual choice: which software, out of a rather large list, is worth your money?

There are many reasons that someone might want to have an efficient suite of software that can monitor what is happening on their computer. Perhaps you have children whom you suspect are viewing illicit or illegal material, or maybe your spouse is up to... less than desirable things. Regardless of your intentions, you may find comfort in knowing that there are software packages out there which can act as an excellent “security camera” for when you aren't around.
