Turbo Passwords Review
This software really takes the term “minimalist” and runs with it. Appearing as two buttons within the Internet Explorer or FireFox shell, TurboPasswords is a highly sophisticated and capable program. When we first got out hands on a copy of the software, we were pleased to see an extensive list of features as well as an established client base- this meant that we weren't the first people to give it a try.
However, considering that this market is dominated by several “big boys”, we felt that an objective and fair review was in order. We approached this software the same way that we looked at other, more established software, and our results were actually surprising. Considering that some of the competitive programs have been around for much longer, this software has really got itself together, and that's a great thing for potential customers.
Features
The feature list is quite extensive, though the major features are: password storage and protection, random password generation, 128 bit encryption, incorrect login alert (to prevent online identity theft), quick masking/unmasking of passwords, turbofill (more on that in a moment), as well as a myriad of other, relatively standard password manager features.
The big feature here is TurboFill. TurboFill will automatically enter passwords for websites where it recognizes the user name. It will also learn new user name/password combinations as you use them, so you will never have to manually enter that information yourself. TurboFill integrates itself into the Internet Explorer or FireFox shell, and it is completely config free once you've installed it.
Using TurboPasswords
The first time that we went to install this program our computer locked and we were forced to restart. It installed without issue on the second attempt, however, so we sincerely doubt that the lockup had anything to do with the program. Once it was installed, we found TurboPasswords to be quite easy to learn how to use. The main display (the two buttons in the task bar) are streamlined, and we are glad they don't take up too much space. On screen real estate is a highly valued commodity.
The TurboFill feature worked exactly as advertised, filling in passwords for associated user names. It worked for every websites that we tried it on, and it never got various websites mixed up (even the very similar TD Bank and TD Waterhouse pages). It learned new passwords, and it was quite easy for us to associate different users to different passwords.
The random password generator also worked out quite well, and when it was on full-random it generated passwords that no one would ever be able to guess, such as desiree41labcoat. Who the heck would ever even dream of guessing desiree41labcoat! The best part is that you can simply save the randomly generated password into your password list- this way, you'll never have to remember that your password for your favorite forum is desiree411labcoat.
Conclusion
This software is a true performer, offering great value as well as terrific performance. The only reason that this product wasn't rated higher was because of a few minor issues, as well as some small differences between it and our number one pick. However, this is definitely software that you should check out and try for yourself! Highly recommended.
