Popup Blocker Software

AdsGone Popup Killer

You may recall a review that we wrote about a piece of software called “Window Washer”. Window Washer is excellent software for preserving your privacy, and it seems as if the same programmers have gone and made AdsGone Popup Killer. If that is the case, we are expecting this software to be just as good and intuitive as Window Washer is.

One interesting thing to note is that you can actually get a one-year subscription to use Window Washer free when you purchase Popup Killer for only $30- getting two pieces of software for one low price is certainly appealing. But, as we've all seen with sister products, is Popup Killer as good as we're hoping?

Features

Popup Killer is full of features. It is completely Vista capable, so you won't have to worry about any compatibility issues. It can block popups, inline popups, java popups, flash popups, banner ads, spyware, adware, IM popups, and it is completely configurable. You can make this software do just about anything.

The extensive list of features is evident of this programs capability. In fact, coupled with the Window Washer program that is included, you get a combination of software that is nearly unbeatable. Between the two, you computer will be safe, clean, and popup free. This is a great solution if you are looking for a seamless browsing experience.

Using AdsGone Popup Killer

This dynamic duo combine together to create an excellent team. We ran the Window Washer program before we did any of our tests, deleting tons of useless junk from the computer and freeing up memory. Then, we checked to make sure that no cookies or other types of information were stored. Running Popup Killer, we began to browse a series of test pages that we had one of our designers code up for us.

We have the software set up to play a chime when it blocks a popup, so that we can tell which popup has been blocked and why. As well, we have some good popups (such as the ones associated with Hotmail) on a safe list so that they are allowed to appear.

As we navigated the test website, we noticed that the software was doing it's job. Every time that we were expecting a popup, the software chimed, letting us know that it had been successfully blocked. This was also true of the most obscure popups, such as the javascript and Macromedia Flash popups. However, we also noticed that it was blocking popups that it shouldn't be, such as status popups or popups associated with online e-mail accounts. It did let the Hotmail popups display, however, so it could simply be a matter of adding them to your safe list.

Conclusion

We're convinced that these two pieces of software are a great solution for your home. In fact, we think that they combined to create one heck of a bargain. For only $30, you can't go wrong.

Popup XP

Popup XP

Coming at you like a bat out of hell, popups can quickly ruin your online experience. After all, who hasn't experienced a site loading popup, after popup, after popup... until your only other recourse is to shut the darn computer down and restart the thing. If you were working on something important, or perhaps reading about something that caught your attention, too bad.

Looking for an effective solution to those incredibly annoying popups is becoming harder and harder. It's not so much the programs fault, as nearly every popup blocking program will block known popups, and some will even block known adware/spyware programs as well. The problem is that the popups change quite often, and the result is software that doesn't block the new incarnations.

Popup Ad Smasher

Finding a budget priced solution to your problem isn't an easy thing to do. Popup Ad Smasher, in spite of a rather ridiculous name, is priced at merely $20, placing it in the realm of just about everyone. One thing that we've learned in the past is that price or quantity doesn't necessarily dictate quality, so we approach our reviews from a slightly different perspective.
