Features
Popup Ad Smasher is
quite standard in terms of its feature set, and there is nothing here that is
out of the ordinary or amazing. In fact,
this software might just be as plain jane as it gets. It integrates into your operating system and
runs silently in the background.
Popup Ad Smasher tries
quite hard to be a jock of all trades, as does quite a bit. It cleans any saved or incoming cookies,
prevents web crawlers from accessing your computer, blocks out harmful or
offensive content, blocks those popups that occur inside a webpage (as a
javascript applet), cleans internet related files from your computer (history,
cache, etc), and even offers a password protect feature for when you're away
from your computer.
As we said before,
fairly standard in terms of features, though certain integrations (like the
content control feature) are particularly well thought out. This program actually comes off as more of an
all-around security program, as opposed to simply a popup blocker.
Using Popup Ad Smasher
This program has a
relatively crude interface, and it is not as user-friendly as some of the
other, more established programs that are on the market. However, that doesn't mean that it isn't easy
to use and navigate through. Rather, we
found that there is a bit of a learning curve, where you have to spend some
time figuring out what all of the menu's and buttons do.
Once we had it figured
out and running, everything was good.
The software did its job quite well, and we have yet to find one website
that managed to slip a popup by. We
didn't really test some of the other features, such as their cookie deletion or
password protection features, but we're confident that they would work as
advertised.
Conclusion
The fact is that this
product is less than half of the cost of some of the other competition
programs, and it's still a pretty good piece of software. It's like how Honda costs less than Porsche,
but the Honda S2000 can move with the rest of them.
Would we recommend
this software to you? While we've
reviewed better software (see our top choice here), at $20, it's a great
bargain if you simply don't want to spend any more. |
