Popup Blocker SoftwarePopup Blocker Software

Popups are annoying. They take away valuable screen place, block out parts of websites that you are trying to view, or slow down and possibly even hang the computer. Sound a bit far-fetched? Maybe, but it’s happened to us before.

A popup blocker is an application which prevents a website from launching popups. Unless that website is on your safe list, any popup that it tries to launch will be blocked. Most of these applications give you the option of temporarily allowing popups to any website, or the ability to add websites to a “safelist”, where it will not block popups.

A popup blocker should always have two main features:

  • Advanced popup blocking – We’re not talking about the integrated popup blocker in Internet Explorer or Firefox. We’re talking a full-out, full-featured program that blocks all popups, including Java and Flash based ones.

Some applications go so far as to also block advertisements, such as Google’s AdSense. We consider this a secondary component of these applications.

  • Configurability – The user should be able to specify websites that are exempt from blocking or be able to temporarily allow popups.

There are a lot of choices on the market right now. We’ve narrowed them down to five market leaders- we highly recommend that you start with our recommended software.

You may recall a review that we wrote about a piece of software called “Window Washer”. Window Washer is excellent software for preserving your privacy, and it seems as if the same programmers have gone and made AdsGone Popup Killer. If that is the case, we are expecting this software to be just as good and intuitive as Window Washer is.

Coming at you like a bat out of hell, popups can quickly ruin your online experience. After all, who hasn't experienced a site loading popup, after popup, after popup... until your only other recourse is to shut the darn computer down and restart the thing. If you were working on something important, or perhaps reading about something that caught your attention, too bad.

Looking for an effective solution to those incredibly annoying popups is becoming harder and harder. It's not so much the programs fault, as nearly every popup blocking program will block known popups, and some will even block known adware/spyware programs as well. The problem is that the popups change quite often, and the result is software that doesn't block the new incarnations.

Popup Ad Smasher

Finding a budget priced solution to your problem isn't an easy thing to do. Popup Ad Smasher, in spite of a rather ridiculous name, is priced at merely $20, placing it in the realm of just about everyone. One thing that we've learned in the past is that price or quantity doesn't necessarily dictate quality, so we approach our reviews from a slightly different perspective.
